Devilled Sausages – Crock Pot

Serves 4-6

Ingredients:

1/4 cup brown sugar
1/4 teaspoon salt
1 tablespoon soy sauce
1 tablespoon wine vinegar
8-12 sausages (about 700g)
1 can chopped tomatoes (400g)
1 large onion
1 Apple, chopped and skin off
2 Tablespoons Ketchup
2 tablespoons Tomato Paste
1 teaspoon Paprika

Method:

1. Place the sugar and salt into your slow cooker or crock pot. Add the vinegar and soy sauce and stir until smooth. Separate the sausages and brown in a little oil for a few minutes in a heavy-based fry pan. Place into the crock pot in the liquid with the tomatoes.

2. Chop the peeled onion length-wise and brown in the fry pan you used previously. Add browned onion and apples to the crock pot, and stir into the mixture.

3. Cook for 6 – 8 hours on crockpot low setting.

Serve on creamy mash and the sauce drizzled over. Also great with rice or a baked potato, fresh veges like beans or broccoli.

We have made this without browning anything at all and it still turned out great.

Last time we made this we used an oven bag for rice. Put 1 cup of Washed rice in the oven bag with two cups of water. Lightly twist the top of the bag, place it on top of sausages. Put crockpot on high, and cook for around 1.5 hours more.
