Cottage Pie – Crockpot

Cottage Pie

1kg Stewing/Braising Steak (or any cheap cut of beef)
    1 Onion
    4/5 Cloves Garlic
1 ½ cups of Beef Stock
    2 – 3 TBSP Worcestershire Sauce
    2 -3 TBSP Ketchup
    1 tsp Paprika
    Salt & Pepper
    1 pkt Gravy
    8 – 10 Big Potatoes
    Parmesan Cheese

Dice onions and garlic, put in crock pot. Slice beef into bite size pieces and put in crock pot. Add sauces, stock and salt and pepper. I sometimes add in other sauces too, sometimes a little soy/fish sauce/plum sauce/BBQ sauce, just whatever flavours I want to have that day. Stir together, and cook on low for 8-9 hours.

Peel and boil potatoes. Take lid off crock pot and turn up heat. Spoon some of the liquid from the crock pot into a mug and mix in the gravy sachet. Add back to crock pot and let it thicken without the lid while the potatoes boil. (You can thicken with cornflour, the gravy packet just adds more flavour).

Mash the potatoes, (add in some butter and a small amount of milk). Sometimes I stir a handful of parmesan cheese through the mashed potatoes too. Remove the beef from the crock pot and put into large, greased, oven safe dish. Spread the mashed potatoes on top, and sprinkle on some more parmesan cheese.

Bake in the oven for 15 minutes at 180 degrees and then grill until the cheese bubble. Let cool for 5 – 10 minutes before serving.
