{"id":1500,"date":"2026-02-26T12:51:40","date_gmt":"2026-02-25T23:51:40","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/debskitchen.co.nz\/?p=1500"},"modified":"2026-02-26T13:08:11","modified_gmt":"2026-02-26T00:08:11","slug":"indian-style-rice-and-peas","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/debskitchen.co.nz\/?p=1500","title":{"rendered":"Indian Style Rice and Peas &#8211; Rice Cooker or Stove"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>2 Cups Basmati Rice &#8211; Washed and Drained<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>3.5 to 4 cups water (or use the lines on your own Rice Cooker)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>1 Cup Frozen Peas (I pour boiling water on these to thaw a little)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>1 Tablespoon Butter <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>1 teaspoon Cumin Seeds<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>1 teaspoon Turmeric<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>1 teaspoon salt<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>1 clove garlic, finely chopped <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>4 Cardamom Pods<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I make this in my rice cooker, as it makes it very easy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Turn the rice cooker on and let it heat a little:  Add butter, Cumin seeds, turmeric, salt, garlic and cardamom pods. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Saute these together for around 2 minutes, then add the rice and water and cook as usual.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">When it has finished, fluff it up with a rice spoon and add the peas.
