{"id":1461,"date":"2025-04-02T20:42:50","date_gmt":"2025-04-02T07:42:50","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/debskitchen.co.nz\/?p=1461"},"modified":"2025-04-02T21:15:16","modified_gmt":"2025-04-02T08:15:16","slug":"sweet-sour-pork","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/debskitchen.co.nz\/?p=1461","title":{"rendered":"Sweet &amp; Sour Pork"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<pre class=\"wp-block-preformatted\"><br>400 grams Diced Pork - any cut is fine, including cheaper cuts<br>\u00bd Onion \u2013 Finely grated on a box grater<br>1 teaspoon Garlic \u2013 Finely chopped<br>1 teaspoon Ginger \u2013 Finely chopped<br>1\/2 teaspoons Baking Soda<br>2 teaspoon Cornflour<br>2 Tablespoon Soy Sauce<br><br>Mix the above together in a bowl and place in the fridge covered overnight. This will tenderise the pork.<br><br>Vegetables: Prepare the vegetables and sit aside<br><br>1 courgette - diced<br>2 carrots \u2013 sliced into sticks<br>2 onions \u2013 sliced <br>1 corn on the cob \u2013 slice the corn off the cob<br>2 capsicums \u2013 sliced <br>2 large Spring onions  - sliced<br>1 tin of pineapple pieces \u2013 Set juice aside<br>2 cloves of garlic \u2013 Finely chopped<br>2 pieces of fresh ginger \u2013 finely chopped<br><br>Sweet &amp; Sour Sauce<br>1\/3 cup white sugar<br>1\/3 cup cider vinegar<br>The juice from can of Pineapple pieces<br>3 Tablespoons Tomato sauce<br>\u00bd teaspoon Worcester Sauce<br>1 Tablespoon Soy sauce<br>1 teaspoon Fish Sauce or Oyster Sauce<br>\u00bd cup water<br>Mix the above ingredients in a glass bowl. Microwave for 3 minutes, then thicken with the cornflour. Continue cooking until thicker (about 2 more minutes)<br>4 teaspoons cornflour \u2013 mixed to a paste with a little water to thicken.<br>Set the sauce aside<br><br>Take the Pork out of the fridge and add 5 Tablespoons of Cornflour to the bowl. Stir well, it should all be white.  Let sit for 5 minutes.  You may need to dust with more cornflour before fryng.<br><br>Using about half a cup of oil, fry your pork in 3 batches for around 3 mins each batch<br>Let it sit on a wire rack.<br><br>Add more oil, and heat till hot, fry all the pork at once this time, for another 2 mins. Note (I then sat the pork in the air fryer on very low until I needed it. But next time I think I will try cooking the pork in the air fryer, rather than frying it. Possibly spraying with an oil spray.<br><br>While frying the pork, start your onions, ginger and garlic in a wok pan for about 3 minutes. <br>Add all your other Vegetables and Pineapple and cook for about 5 minutes.<br><br>Add the Pork<br>Add the sauce<br>Cook for a couple of minutes<br>I add in a bag of crunchie noodles at this stage. <br>Mix all together and serve.<br><br>Options:  Leave out the noodles and serve over rice<br>You could try adding toasted peanuts<br><br><br><\/pre>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>400 grams Diced Pork &#8211; any cut is fine, including cheaper cuts\u00bd Onion \u2013 Finely grated on a box grater1 teaspoon Garlic \u2013 Finely chopped1 teaspoon Ginger \u2013 Finely chopped1\/2 teaspoons Baking Soda2 teaspoon Cornflour2 Tablespoon Soy SauceMix the above together in a bowl and place in the fridge covered overnight.
